Restore House Counselling
The ancient Hebrew word Rapha is associated with healing and restoration. Dr. Brown describes its meaning as “to restore to the intended state of being.”
Life can take us in directions we never intended to go. Painful experiences, loss, trauma, relationship difficulties, and the pressures of everyday life can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves, our values, and the life we hoped to live. Sometimes, we can find ourselves feeling stuck for days, months, or even years.
Counselling offers a safe, supportive space to begin the journey towards healing and restoration
Joe’s Journey in Counselling and Personal Development
With a career spanning over 20 years in health and social care, case management, and ministry, Joe offers counselling rooted in empathy, understanding, and respect for each person's unique journey.
My passion for connecting with people began early in life. Before my mother went into nursing, she worked as a community care worker. Growing up, I was surrounded by people living with varying degrees of disability. I naturally looked beyond the disability to the person and discovered that I had an ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
When I entered the working world, I started in retail before moving into sales. However, I soon realised that I was more interested in talking to people about their lives than closing deals! In 2003, after losing my sales job, I returned to college to pursue a future in social care, beginning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Health and Social Care.
After completing my HND I worked for the international charity L'Arche, where I became a registered residential home manager. Working alongside my team, we helped transform a struggling residential home into one of the best in the county.
In 2007, I moved to America, where I continued working with adults with learning disabilities before progressing into case management, supporting homeless veterans. Alongside my professional work, I also pastored a small church. I valued being bi-vocational because it kept me grounded in the realities of everyday life and the challenges people face.
However, one of the most significant turning points in my life came through my own experience of divorce. During this difficult season, I began seeing a counsellor. For the first time, I could make sense of experiences and patterns that had held me back for decades. The impact was profound, and that therapeutic relationship continued for sixteen of the seventeen years I lived in America.
When I returned to Wales in 2024, I carried with me years of professional experience and a personal understanding of the difference counselling can make. Inspired by my own experience, I completed a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling through NCC in 2025, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to support others.
I understand what it feels like to sit on both sides of the counselling relationship: to be the person seeking help and the person offering support. I know the courage it takes to explore our past, talk honestly about our present struggles, and begin to imagine a different future.
My aim is to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can be heard, explore what matters to you, and work towards a future that feels more hopeful and fulfilling.

My Counselling Approach
My approach is person-centred, which means that you are at the heart of our work together. I believe that every individual has their own unique experiences, strengths, and capacity for growth. My role is to listen, understand, and walk alongside you as you explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
You don’t need to have all the answers before you begin, and you don’t need to be in crisis to seek support. Sometimes, having someone genuinely listen and help you make sense of things can be the first step towards meaningful change.
Together, we can explore the challenges you’re facing, identify patterns that may be affecting your well-being, and work towards greater self-awareness, confidence, and emotional balance.
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but you don’t have to navigate everything alone. My aim is to provide a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment where you feel heard, valued, and supported.
If you feel ready to begin, I invite you to get in touch to discuss how counselling might help you move forward.
Sessions are conducted via Teams or Zoom so you can be in the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you can use a device.
You deserve the time and space to be heard, understood, and supported.
